About
Laura Seixas is a Portuguese film and television director based in Vancouver, Canada, working internationally across Europe and North America. She is best known as the co-creator of Dreaming Whilst Black (BBC / A24), adapted from the acclaimed UK web series of the same name. The series garnered international recognition, screening at over 33 festivals worldwide, earning 65 nominations and 36 wins, including several directing awards for her pilot episode. In 2024, the original web series was inducted into the BFI National Archive, cementing its place in British television history.
Laura’s work spans both television and film, often blending comedy, thriller, and sci-fi genres. Her recent television credits include Broken Spies, a TV show about espionage in Portugal during WWII, where she directed two episodes, served as second unit director across the rest of the series, and held a staff writer credit. The show premiered at Berlinale 2025 where it was aquired by Colour Films and will be released in Europe in the fall of 2025. She also contributed to the anthology series Contado Por Mulheres, directing the episode Serpentina as part of the co-production between Ukbar Filmes, RTP, and Krakow Film Klaster.
Laura began her career as an actress, joining the renowned British theater group Lisbon Players in Portugal. She also studied at John Frey studio’s. She later transitioned into directing, starting with a string of award-winning short films, including Belonging, and the sci-fi mockumentary Let There Be Light. She is currently in post-production on her latest short film, shot in New York City in 2024, while developing new projects across screen and audio formats — including a genre-bending sci-fi audio/feauture drama, a feature-length road-trip dramedy and comedy television series.
Earlier in her career, Laura served as company director at 4 Quarter Films in London, where she directed and produced numerous corporate and branded content projects. She holds a Master of Arts in Directing from Met Film School London and a Bachelor's degree in Communication Sciences from Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Multilingual, Laura is passionate about cross-cultural storytelling. In addition to her work as a director, she enjoys singing and has occasionally performed at local cafés.
